Vidarbha become first team to beat Mumbai by an innings within three days after enforcing follow-on

AFTER conquering team from national capital Delhi on January one, 2018 for their maiden Ranji Trophy title, Vidarbha, exactly one year later, defeated squad from state capital Mumbai at VCA Jamtha Stadium on Tuesday.

Vidarbha thumped the 41-time Ranji champions by an innings and 145 runs to register their first win over Mumbai in two meetings in the national premier cricket tournament.
Vidarbha became the first team to beat Mumbai by an innings inside three days after enforcing follow-on. There have been occasions when Mumbai were asked to follow on. But on all previous four times they managed to eke out a draw.

Vidarbha inflicted the second biggest defeat over Mumbai. Gujarat had hrashed Dattu Phadkar-led Mumbai by an innings and 166 runs at Ahmedabad way back in 1950-51.
In response to Vidarbha’s 511, the visitors were bundled out for 252 in the first innings and 114 in the second innings. Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarvate (3-86, 6-48), off-spinner Akshay Wakhare (5-85, 2-47) and ambidextrous bowler Akshay Karnewar (2-59, 2-19) accounted for all the twenty wickets. For the hosts, Wasim Jaffer had made 178 while youngster Atharva Taide and professional Ganesh Satish contributed 95 and 90 runs respectively.
