BHILAI,

To press their demand for the apt  implementation of Medical Protection Act, the private practitioners from Bhilai-Durg staged at day-long strike and kept their OPD closed on Friday.
The private practitioners staged the strike under the banner of Indian Medical Association (IMA) near Manas Bhavan, Durg. Due to their strike patients had to face trouble. However, to provide relief to the patients, the OPD of government
hospitals were kept open from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

As per the schedule the doctors gathered before Manas Bhavan and sat on strike from 8.00 am that continued
till 2.00 pm. However, the emergency services and in-patients were exempted from restrictions of the strike and during the schedule strike only OPD services remained closed. About 600 doctors from Bhilai-Durg come under the banner and closed their Nursing Home, Private Clinic and OPD facilities.
President of IMA-Durg, Dr Archana Chouhan informed that to protest against the assault on doctors that is rising day by day and to provide safety to the doctors the association staged the strike and demand from the government and administration for the strict implementation of the law made for their safety.

IMA-Bhilai, President, Dr T Akthar informed that if a patient dies in a hospital it is being considered that this is due to the negligent attitude of the doctors and they are held responsible, but this is not true a doctor always tries to provide best treatment and save the life of the patients. If such incident continues it will create trouble for the serious patients as doctors will avoid admitting serious patients in their hospitals and treat them. There is strict law that under which assaulting a doctor and ransacking the hospital property is an unbailable crime, but the police is not supporting the doctors so we are forced to stage this protest, he added.
