Congress organises meeting of defeated Assembly candidates

CM Kamal Nath sought list of BJP-supporting officers from the candidates

A meeting of defeated candidates of Assembly elections was held at Congress office on Thursday evening. The reasons of defeat were reviewed. Along with this, future strategy for ensuing Lok Sabha elections was discussed.
This meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Kamal Nath and attended by former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, Cabinet Minister P C Sharma, former MLA Ram Niwas Rawat etc. Congress media cell in charge Shobha Ojha was also present in the meeting apart from Rajiv Singh, Govind Goyal, etc.

A defeated Congress candidate and former minister told on condition of anonymity to ‘The Hitavada’ that, Chief Minister Kamal Nath tried to boost up the morale of defeated candidates by saying that they are not defeated in his eyes, rather they are winners in another form.

CM urged defeated Congress Assembly candidates to prepare with renewed energy as Lok Sabha elections are knocking the doors. “Moreover, he asked them to give the list of BJP-minded officers to him. He said that if anyone feels that certain officer is BJP supporter, then he should give his name to him,” said a defeated Assembly candidate of Congress. CM also emphasized on strengthening the party organisation in the view of coming Lok Sabha elections.

Most importantly, Congress party did survey of those Assembly seats, where it lost the recently held Assembly elections and survey result has reached till party leaders. By assessing the result, Congress is preparing the future strategy for Lok Sabha elections.

Notably, Congress contested Assembly elections on 229 Assembly seats and lost around 115 seats to BJP. Then also, it emerged as biggest party as it bagged 114 Assembly seats, just two seats short of majority.
It formed Government with the help of Independent candidates and two BSP MLAs and one MLA from Samajwadi Party.
