DGP praises role of media in holding peaceful election

Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP) has acknowledged and praised the role of media in holding a peaceful election. Awasthi was interacting with the journalists at the New Year meet organised at the old Police Head Quarters (PHQ) on Thursday. DM Awasthi extended New Year greetings to the journalists while acknowledging the media’s contribution in bettering the police function.

Raipur media has worked in coordination with the police and it has also pointed out the Department’s shortcomings through a healthy journalism. Medias role has also been crucial in fighting the Naxals. Media must also be credited for its positive role during Election, which was organised very peacefully with no act of violence disrupting the polling process, DGP Awasthi commented.

DGP also replied to questions related to Jhiram Ghati investigation initiated by the State Government, saying that they are in the process of acquiring files of the case from National Investigation Agency (NIA) and once the process is completed, Special Investigation Team (SIT) will start the probe. Similarly, probe on Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) scam will also start soon.

Pending cases related to Economic Offence Wing (EOW), Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Crime Branch will now be reviewed monthly. On the issue of the week off to the personnel, DGP replied that there are over 74,000 police personnel in the state at present and proposal of the week off will be sent to the state government.
