Staff Reporter,

Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has himself ousted from the race of Leader of Opposition post. It is likely that BJP may name someone else as Leader of Opposition in a day or two. The Winter Session of Assembly is starting from January 7 onwards.

It was during dinner party given to mediapersons at his residence when ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan cleared that he is not in the race of Leader of Opposition as he had remained CM for 13 years.

With this, the opportunity of becoming Leader of Opposition is open to everyone in BJP. Names of BJP MLAs including former Panchayat Minister Gopal Bhargava, former Home Minister Bhupendra Singh and former minister Dr Narottam Mishra are doing the rounds for the post of Leader of Opposition.

On condition of anonymity, a senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member told ‘The Hitavada’ that if party leadership decides then ex CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will have no option rather to essay the role of Leader of Opposition. Moreover, some other could also be named by seeing the political equations as Lok Sabha elections are knocking the doors.

He told that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP State Organisation incharge Dr Vinay Saharabuddhe have been given the task to look into the issue of appointing Leader of Opposition. The meeting in Bhopal is on the cards in this regard.

Notably, it is after a long gap of 15 years that BJP is sitting in Opposition in State Assembly. In the recently held elections, BJP got defeated at the hands of Congress. BJP got 109 seats while Congress emerged as single largest party with 114 seats. Congress with the help of independent MLAs and two BSP MLAs, one SP MLA formed the Government in State.
