School lays foundation for students to shape future of country: Gen Rawat

Bhonsala Military School celebrates 23rd Annual Day

“This is the beginning of a journey that the cadets of Bhonsala Military School will lead. The future is in your hands. The future of the country rests on your abilities, whose foundation has been laid in school,” exhorted Gen Bipin Rawat UYSM AVSM YSM SM VSM ADC, Chief of the Army Staff.  General Rawat was addressing the gathering of cadets, instructional staff, teachers, parents, guests and family members during 23rd Annual Day celebrations of Bhonsala Military School (BMS) Nagpur at Kasturchand Park here on Saturday.


Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister; Chandrasekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Lt Gen Dr D B Shekatkar PVSM AVSM VSM, President of All India Governing Board of Central Hindu Military Education Society (CHMES) that runs BMS; Suryaratan Daga, President of CHMES; Shailesh Joglekar, Chairman of BMS Nagpur; and Prof Dilip Delgaonkar, Secretary of the Governing Body of CHMES; Kumar Kale, Secretary of CHMES; Col J S Bhandari, Commandant of BMS Nagpur; also shared the dais on the occasion.


General Rawat asked the cadets to be proud of getting educated in a school like BMS, which cared for core values and quality of education. He explained the difference between Knowledge and Education.


“One may acquire Knowledge through various sources including books, Internet etc. However, Education is acquired through culture, traditions, and rich values. Hence, values imbibed in formative years in school hold good in years ahead,” he said. He appreciated the efforts put in the school in getting two of their cadets appear for Services Selection Board and getting to join the Defence services.


The Chief of the Army Staff advised students to read the biographies of role-models to get inspired. “History is replete with role-models. All of them shared the qualities of hard work and discipline, and got good guidance,” he stressed. Apart from academics, he laid emphasis on physical education and sports to keep fit mentally and physically.


Referring to social media becoming an integral part of life today, General Bipin Rawat called for making proper use of it. Stating that the use of social media was restricted to messaging, jokes etc, he said, “We must fully exploit social media to gain educational insight, become more aware about health and fitness, and showcasing innovation.” He appealed to parents and teachers to nurture the potential of the tender minds by acting as good motivators. He urged the students to become positive contributors to society by doing simple things like obeying traffic rules, respecting societal norms and culture, respecting elders.


In his speech, Fadnavis congratulated the cadets and the management of the school for being lucky to have Chief of the Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat as their chief guest on their 23rd Annual Day celebrations. He was full of praise for the quality and standard of the parade, quality of education, inculcation of discipline and other values in students. He informed the gathering that in the next 15 years the country would acquire a lot of importance, as a result of all-round development which no outside force could prevent.


“India will become the third largest financial power in the world. Our youth is our main source of strength. For, it is this demographic dividend that will ensure India’s rise to its position of glory again,” the Chief Minister said. “Our history was glorious, our present is disturbing, but we can make future of our motherland glorious with disciplined and committed youngsters like you,” he added.

The nation’s bright future lies in the hands of students. That is where social work, patriotism, service to the nation, and values taught in such military schools is of great importance, Fadnavis said.Whether a cadet joined the Defence forces or not, he or she would definitely have capabilities to contribute positively to the cause of nation-building.

He appealed to the students to contribute to larger good without selfish objectives to ensure that the nation rose to greater heights. General Bipin Rawat and Devendra Fadnavis distributed prizes to Utkarsh Rathor,the Best Cadet of the Year; and cadets Kunal Yadav and Dheeraj Watkar; and conferred upon the awards forexcellentperformancetoGuru Gobind Singh Bhavan, and Rana Pratap Company. Earlier, Col J S Bhandari read the school report and shed light on excellent performance of BMS Nagpur. General Rawat was welcomed by Shailesh Joglekar with a bouquet. Madhulika Rawat, President Army Wives Welfare Association and wife of Gen Rawat, also was welcomed with a bouquet.SuryaratanDaga welcomed the Chief Minister,Kumar Kale welcomed Lt Gen DrDB Shekatkar,and Col Bhandari welcomed the Guardian Minister of district.

The cadets of Bhonsala Military School presenteda guard of honour to Gen Rawat, who also inspected the parade.The cadets delivered impressive performances of gymnastics, equestrian events,display by pipe and drums band,aeromodeling show,Lezim show and won loud applause not only from the general public but also from the Army Chief. Shailesh Joglekar proposed a vote of thanks.The impressive ceremony concluded with singing of National Anthem.
