Religious events organised on birth anniversary Guru Gobind Singh

The holy chants of ‘Waheguru’, recitation of slogan in praise of Guru, ‘Ardaas’ and ‘Nagar Kirtan’ taken out by Sikh devotees, marked the beginning of 352nd birth anniversary celebrations of Sikhism’s tenth master, Guru Gobind Singh. People from Sikh community gathered at Gurudwara Sahib, Vaishali Nagar, Bhilai and celebrated the occasion with great enthusiasm and gaiety.


In the early morning, a large number of Sikh devotees had started assembling at the Gurudwaras to take part in the morning session of the ardaas and to pay obeisance to the Guru. Thousands of Sikh devotees from different parts of steel city and its outskirts areas participated in the grand ‘Nagar Kirtan’ which was taken out from Vaishali Nagar Gurudwara. The Nagar Kirtan was taken out in the afternoon hours and devotees, participating in the ‘Nagar Kirtan’ have swept the path where the ‘Nagar Kirtan’  was proceeding.


The devotees were seen reciting Bhajan Kirtan, raising slogans in praise of Guru and chanting Wahe Guru all the way during Nagar Kirtan, while youths were seen playing Gatka art. The occasion marked by the recitations of Gurbani Kirtans (holy hymns) by the Ragi Jathas (religious preachers) and Amrit Sanchaar (holy baptism) at Vaishali Nagar Gurudwara and other Gurudwaras in Steel City.


People also enjoyed ‘langar’ of eatables at stalls, installed by Gurudwara management within short distances.
“A warrior-poet and a philosopher, Guru Gobind Singh is considered a perfect example of manhood. Our children are taught to be like him”, pointed Karanjeet Kaur, a Sikh woman.
