Staff Reporter,

Fire brigades failed in timely approaching the spot of fire incident at Sarafa market due to encroachments and mismanaged traffic. The findings of a mock drill exposed the vulnerability of situation at central market place.

A combined team of Traffic police and Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) conducted a mock drill fire incident to check out the approaching time of fire brigade from Teen Patti to Sarafa Square in different timings, on Monday. Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Amrat Meena informed that the mock drill was conducted to check out traffic arrangements at busiest market places and response time of fire brigades in case of fire incident at centre point of the market. Separate fire brigades were rushed from Fire Brigade Control Room to Sarafa Chowk from different routes. Traffic police estimated the approach time of 3 to 4 minutes from Teen Patti Square to Sarafa Square when the market is closed.

Similarly, at 12 noon, fire brigade took time of 5 to 7 minutes and the same distance was covered between 4 pm to 8 pm in 9 to 10 minutes.

Besides this, fire brigade personnel faced several hurdles due to roadside encroachments when they came out from the vehicle and advised the shop owners and businessmen to remove their encroachments for getting emergency services in their area.
