Staff Reporter,

Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Monday told Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to supply 2 MM3 water to Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAj) and Wadi Municipal Council from Ambazari Lake. He approved the permission during a meeting held at collector office on Monday. OFAj and Wadi Municipal Council raised the water shortage issue with Guardian Minister one month ago, seeking water supply from the lake to overcome the water shortage in Wadi area.

In presence of MLA Sameer Meghe, Collector Ashwin Mudgal and former MLA Ashish Jaiswal, Bawankule took the decision. OFAj administration will bear the expense of Rs 9 crore for laying the pipelines and the proposal send to Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) in Kolkata for further decision. To get the quick response and permission from OFB, Bawankule himself talked with Subhash Bhamre, Minister of State for Defence in this regard.

This year, Vidarbha region received insufficient rainfall which adversely affected water storage in all dams including Wena dam. The dam is responsible to supply water to OFAj, Wadi area, Dawlameti, Navneet Nagar, Nildoh and Digdoh.
However, NMC will provide water to Nildoh and Digdoh areas from Trimurti Nagar water tank. Bawankule instructed officials to prepare plan for laying of pipeline for Nildoh and Digdoh areas during the meeting.

Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) is responsible for  distribution of 38.16 million  litters per day (MLD) of water from Wena Dam. The total storage of the dam is 23.567 MM3 of which 21.621 MM3 is live storage and 1.925 MM3 is dead storage. Total 9.9 MM3 water is supplied from the dam to OFAj and other three places. Also, 3.203 MM3 water is supplied to Nildoh and Digdoh Gram Panchayats, and 1.65 MM3 to Kalmeshwar MIDC.
