Maha Metro to obtain soft loan of Rs 5,890 crore for Phase-II

Maharashtra Government has given its nod to Phase-II of Nagpur Metro Rail Project to connect Kamptee, Hingna, Kanhan, Datta Wadi areas. After this phase, the total length of Nagpur Metro from Kanhan to Butibori will be 52 kms.


The total cost of the project is Rs 11,260 crore. Maha Metro will obtain soft loan of Rs 5,890 crore from the foreign agencies while Rs 1,658 crore each will be shared by Government of India and Government of Maharshtra.
Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro welcomed the historic decision of the State Government. He said, this will boost connectivity in semi-urban areas of Nagpur district.


The Phase - II covers rural parts of Nagpur district and will serve as an extension to ongoing first phase. Dr Dixit said, this is a major milestone achieved a new year gift by the Maha Metro to the residents of Nagpur district. He said, now, the proposal will send to Central Government for its nod. The second phase will cater need of 8 lakh population of the district while first phase will provide services to 13.38 lakh population. The proposed phase will spread over 48.3 kms length with 35 stations. The first phase is spread over 38.215 kms with 38 stations.


It is estimated to create additional commuting potential for 2.9 lakh commuters per day by the year 2024. With Phase-1 and Phase-2, the total commuting potential of the project is expected to be 5.5 lakh commuters per day. The total cost of the both the projects is Rs 19,896 crore. The Phase-2 will cover 48.3 km stretch divided into five segments -- Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, Wasudeo Nagar to Wadi, Automotive Square to Kanhan river, Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar, and MIHAN to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) elevated service reservoir (ESR).


Further Dr. Dixit claimed that the first phase of Rs 8,680 crore is progressing well and as per scheduled timelines. The second phase will be helpful for the residents and labourers living in Kamptee, Kanhan and other areas and transport daily upto Butibori. This will not only save their time but also provide life safety. Sunil Mathur, Director of Maha Metro, and Anil Kumar Kokate, General Manager were present.


Proposed route of Phase- II

Automotive Sqr to Kanhan river 13 km-12 stations- Khasara, Lekha Nagar, Kamptee, Dragon Palace.

MIHAN to Butibori MIDC ESR 18.5 kms- 10 stations- Jamtha, Dongargaon, Mohgaon, Butibori, MHADA colony, Indorama Colony.

Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar 5.6 kms- 3 stations- Ambe Nagar, Kapse, Transport Nagar and Asoli.

Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna 6.7 kms- 7 stations- Nildoh, Gajanan Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Raipur, and Hingna Village including surrounding MIDC areas.

Vasudev Nagar to Wadi 4.5 km- 3 stations- MIDC area, Ordinance factory colony, and Wadi along Amravati road.
