Peddler held with smack worth Rs 1.20L

DURING a special campaign against illegal trade and transportation of narcotic substances, Belbagh police succeeded in apprehending a drug peddler and seized 14 grams smack worth Rs 1.20 lakh from him. The accused has been identified as Sonam Sonkar alias Vivek Sonkar, a resident of near water overhead tank, Dangal Maidan in Khatik Mohalla. SHO of Belbagh police station Dr Dinesh Joshi informed that under the direction of Superintendent of Police Amit Singh (IPS), police have started a rigorous campaign against illegal trade of narcotics substances under supervision of Additional SP (City) Deepak Kumar Shukla (IPS) and CSP, Omti, Shashikant Shukla.

Police received information about a suspected man involved in illegal trade of narcotic substances sighted near Dangal Maidan. Taking prompt action on the information, police started a search and trapped the man red-handed when he was selling smack. During search, police team seized smack in small packets weighing around 14 grams worth Rs 1.20 lakh. Police seized narcotics substance under provisions of NDPS Act. In further investigation, police learnt that Vivek Sonkar is a habitual criminal and was externed from the district limits but he violated norms. Belbagh police have registered a case against the accused under Section 8/21 of NDPS Act, while another case under Section 188 of the IPC and Section 14 of Madhya Pradesh State Security Act has been registered.

Police are further investigating the case to identify the source of obtaining consignment of narcotic substances and apprehending other persons working in the network of narcotics trade. Drug peddler was arrested with active efforts of police team led by SHO of Belbagh police station, Dr Dinesh Joshi comprised SI S N Kushwaha, Probationary SI, Prabhat Katare, Head Constable Mahendra Shukla, constables Bal Govind Sharma, Harsh Vardhan and Ajay Yadav.
