Staff Reporter,

In the SYNC 2019, annual confluence of Operations and Maintenance (O&M), industry experts from both the private and public sector companies discussed trends in the sector, energy solutions, cyber security in the grid and other related topics.

The annual confluence was conducted in Bhopal on Tuesday. The confluence was centered around reliability through technical excellence and addressed key growth opportunities like storage and HVDC in providing 24x7 power to all and the power sector outlook in Bhopal.

Further, deliberations were done on the concerns for the state power sector, policy framework, importance of tariff based competitive bidding, etc.
On the occasion, Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO Global Infrastructure, Sterlite Power, said, “O&M is critical for the country to achieve its 24X7 mission. The ability to respond to any
power break down is one of the important facets of the O&M today.

At Sterlite Power, we understand how O&M partners form the backbone of the integrated management system including on-field operations, enabling the company to deliver projects ahead of schedule, innovative technology solutions for execution and maintenance of the projects.”

Industry experts present at the confluence expressed that the lack of competition in the transmission sector during the past has caused massive loss on exchequer and it is indeed imperative to adopt the TBCB (Tariff Based Competitive Bidding) model to encourage competition and PPP (Public Private Partnership) in executing projects. The TBCB model allows channelization of funds to other priority sectors and can save about 8000 crore of tariff annually. The conference also highlighted that about 45 Centralsector projects have already been awarded through competitive bidding, costing about Rs 50,000 Crores and have resulted in up to 30-40% tariff savings for ISTS projects.
