Transport, banking, post office services hit

The two-day nationwide strike of trade unions, including banks, BSNL, income tax and post office, paralysed the working in State capital on Tuesday. The demonstration has been started in support of ten-point demand.


Large number of people returned empty hand from banks and post offices after watching the offices locked. Demonstrating employees took out rallies in city and staged protest at MP Nagar square. They also conducted a conference to address the issues. Due to the strike banks denied to do NEFT and TGS cash transactions which troubled the general people at large. Foreign exchange, income tax return, speed post, post letters, registry, BSNL broad band, post paid bill payment and other works were badly affected. Many employees reached the offices but they refused to work due to the strike.


Their demands are recruitment on vacant posts, equal work-equal salary, legal pension scheme for union Government employees, amendment in minimum fitment formula of seventh pay, removal of maximum five percent limit on recruitment on compensate ground, withdrawal of closing the Government organisations and regularisation of contractual employees. The protest has been given support by the post office employees union, BSNL, central labour organisation and trade union and income tax officials. The strike will continue on Wednesday.


Two-day strike has been also supported by All India Reserve Bank Employees Association (AIRBEA) and All India Reserve Bank Workers Federation (AIRBWF). Their demands are RBI autonomy and independence must not be diluted, Government must not raid RBI balance sheet, Government must not snatch money from RBI reserves and cripple RBI, shrinkage of RBI, outsourcing of RBI jobs, RBI management , recruit staff at base levels, held up recruitment in class III must be cleared forthwith and second phase of recruitment in class IV should commence immediately, curtailment of RBI jobs, release forthwith updation of pension, open pension option, financial safety of RBI NPS recipients, introduce CPF for NPS recipients, fight Government betrayal on RBI pension updation, option and resisting Government attacks on workers rights.
