Encourage system of mass marriages: CM

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel while calling upon people to encourage the system of mass marriages asked the communities to come forward in vigorously discouraging the evil of intoxication and addiction.

Speaking at the ‘Gadha (Gandharv) Mahotsav’, being held on the pious occasion of ‘Basant Panchami’ at Mokshdham Sankardahara Deori under Dongargarh development block in Rajnandgaon district, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that each and every community should lay focus on education and health, particularly of their children for striving ahead on the path of development. He said that an educated, organised and united community develops expeditiously. Intoxication and addiction are huge barriers in the path of development of any family, village or community. With the cooperation of all communities in the state his government will carry out total prohibition and every community should come forward and carry out social awareness in this direction. Every community should carry out gram sabhas in their respective villages of influence and create awareness among people against intoxication and addiction. They should be made aware about the evil and its ill-effects.

Speaking on the significance of mass marriages, the Chief Minister said that this saves money and time and the save money can be used in the education and health of children. On the occasion the Chief Minister announced hiking the grant issued by the state government to Rs 1.5 lakh from existing Rs 50,000 for organising the ‘Gandharv Mahotsav’. He also announced 3-day Mahotsav on the occasion of Maha Shivratri at Mokshdham Sankardahara Deori every year. On the occasion the Chief Minister inaugurated the waiting shed constructed at a cost of Rs 39.4 lakh. He also stated that budgetary provision has been made for construction of bridge on River Sheonath at Bendarkatta-Kohka road.

The Chief Minister said that after the new government came to power, effective steps are being taken for the benefit of farmers and weaker sections. He said that soon after coming into power his government waived-off short term agriculture loans worth Rs 6,100 crore benefiting over 16 lakh farmers. The State Government has procured paddy at the MSP of Rs 2,500 per quintal, highest in the country. Also steps are taken by the state government towards strengthening the rural economy which is based on agriculture. It is also taking steps towards conservation of traditional ways of agriculture and rearing cattle. Many initiatives are being taken for enhancing irrigation facilities, water recharging and in the field of animal husbandry. Present during the programmes were MLAs Kismatlal Nand, Channi Chandu Sahu, Daleshwar Sahu as well as large number of people from Gandharv community.
