FIR against Sageer’s supporters, two arrested

A DAY after BMC’s Leader of Opposition Mohammad Sageer was attacked with a stone and left critically injured by a few persons, including a fish contractor, at Kaliyasot dam on Saturday afternoon followed by attack on fish contractor by supporters of Sageer near D-Mart in the evening. Jehangirabad police have booked six persons and arrested two of them on Sunday.


Superintendent of Police (South) Sampat Upadhyay said that as many as six persons, including Jugnu and Akbar and five others, in which a person who is introduced himself as a journalist have been booked on charges of attempt to murder and rioting for thrashing and stabbing fish contractor Subhash Raikwar. Jugnu and Akbar have been arrested by Jehangirabad police whereas search is on to nab remaining accused.


On Saturday, more than two dozen men allegedly attacked Mohammed Sageer, Leader of Opposition at BMC, over a dispute related to a fishing contract at Kaliasot dam in Kamla Nagar locality on Saturday afternoon. Sageer along with his men had gone to Kaliasot dam near Khushilal Ayurvedic College when he and his men were attacked by fishing contractor Raikwar’s men.


During the scuffle, one of the accused hit Sageer with a stone due to which he sustained head injury and was rushed to a hospital in Jehangirabad. Acting on a complaint filed by Sageer’s supporter Akbar Khan, Kamla Nagar police registered a case against the accused Devmani, Latif, including fishing contractor Raikwar, who is BJP Mandal Vice-President and Chairman of Naveen Matsya Udyog Cooperative Society and others and started investigations.


Fishing contractor Subhash Raikwar alleged that cops registered a fake case against him under pressure. He alleged that Sageer had called him on phone and was threatening him for extortion lest his lease could be cancelled. The audio clip of the conversation went viral on social media. Later, in the evening, the fishing contractor was allegedly called near D-Mart in Jehangirbad on pretext of giving his views on camera by some of the accused, who posed as journalists, and was attacked. He sustained severe injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. Acting on the information, cops have registered a case on charges of attempt to murder against unidentified accused.


Former Minister Umashankar Gupta and his supporters stage protest outside the hospital in Fatehgarh after the incident. They raised slogans that BJP workers were targeted under the Congress Government. Sageer claimed that the fishing contract was illegal and the contractor had seized goods of fishermen. He alleged that Akbar Khan and Jugnu worked under Raikwar and their wages were not paid. Raikwar and Devmani had seized their boat too. In this regard, he had gone to the dam to resolve the dispute but Raikwar, Devmani and his men attacked them.
