Workshop on education of children with special needs held

A four-day workshop on the education of children with special needs had been organised for M Ed first year students at Government College of Teachers’ Education (CTE) Shankar Nagar here recently.  Focusing on the inclusive education, students were taught about the brail script and the related equipments. Students were made to practise permanent landmarks, signs and smart cane to reach the destination. At this way, they had personal  experience of the difficulties children with visual impairment. They also learned the touch of things and the different types of sounds which different things emit when fall.


Dr Suvidha Singh informed about the steps taken in her school for the special children such as make them sit on front row and other facilities.


Workshop coordinator Madhu Dani informed that there are 2.68 crore with varying forms of impairments according to 2011 census in India, out of which 1.22 crore are illiterates and most of them are visually impaired.
On the occasion, U K Chakaravarty emphasised on being sensitive towards such kids. The programme also had trainers Lokesh Sahu, Pankaj Maurya from Lions School for Mentally Handicapped Avanti Vihar and S Ramaneshree from Mute-Deaf School Muttpurena.
