6 including a minor held in jewellery shop theft case

Raipur Police apprehended five men and a minor in the jewellery shop theft case happened at Siddhartha Chowk on the intervening night of February 1 and 2. Three of them are from Odisha whereas one is a local man.


Exposing the entire sequence of the incident, Raipur Range Inspector General (IG) Dr Anand Chhabra stated that they had launched a manhunt following the theft at Chhattisgarh Jewellers, which came to light on the morning of February 2.
On the complaint of shop owner Santosh Kumar Agrawal, Tikrapara Police had registered a FIR under Section 457, 380 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Taking serious note of the incident, IG Chhabra set up special team under the command of Superintendent of Police (SP) Neethu Kamal.


Scores of people were interrogated and tipsters activated. Police also took in surveillance all such criminals released from jails in the past or recently. On the basis of CCTV footage, Police rounded up a minor boy, who initially attempted to mislead the officials with he couldn’t hold on to his lies long on the face of irrefutable evidences.


Minor boy named his brother partners in crime. Laxman and Sunil Sona fled to Odisha with stolen booty. The police team sent to Odisha caught the duo. Officials also recovered 1.367 kilograms of gold jewellery, 4.396 kilograms of silver, worth about Rs 6.50 lakh along with confiscation of a motorbike, and six mobile phones. Third accused Mucchi (26), a native of village Goherapadar Bolangir Odisha, bought some of the stolen jewellery whereas fourth accused Sagar Nayak was their local link.
