Inaugurating the training programme, K K Singh, ED (P&A) reminded the participants that our existence depends on the expectations of the stakeholders. As companies have evolved so has the importance of Corporate Governance evolved, he said, and as public money is involved in our company’s case, the role of independent directors has become very important.

Singh emphasized that employees have a lot of urge to give back to the society, and that a platform is required for them to contribute, which the CSR department can provide. He also stressed that CSR has to act as a mediator between employees and the beneficiaries, and that we should empower the people through CSR and not subsidize their requirements. K K Singh exhorted the participants
from across the plant to contribute to the society as their departments have provided them an opportunity to learn how to do their bit.

The training programme had sessions on Basic Concepts of CSR including Companies’ Act, 2013, Overview of BSP’s CSR activities in Bhilai, its periphery and mines, Corporate Governance, Environmental Sustainability, and Individual Social Responsibility or Employee Engagement in CSR. The participants were asked to provide suggestions for their voluntary contribution to CSR activities. A quiz, based on the topics covered by the faculty, was asked by P K Jain, Dy. Mgr.
