NDA Government’s PM-KISAN is an insult to farmers: Dewangan

Taking a jibe at National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at Centre, Congress on Sunday said that NDA government has announced Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) just to make the farmers fool. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) In-charge General Secretary Girish Dewangan said that the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government has come up with the scheme PM-KISAN to extend direct income support at the rate of Rs 6,000 per year to farmers.

Addressing a press conference at party office Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday, Dewangan termed NDA government as anti-farmers and conditions of the farmers are pathetic in the country. The Modi government’s announcement to give direct income support at the rate of Rs 6,000 per year to farmers, who own cultivate land up to five acres, is an insult to the farmers as this is the meager amount keeping in mind the problems of farmers, he said.

He said that Chief Minister the Congress government in Chhattisgarh has started giving Rs 2500 per quintal minimum support price (MSP) on paddy that would help to increase the income of the farmers Rs 56,250 annually. Besides, the Chhattisgarh government waived off short term farmers’ loans, he added.

Over 16,65,000 farmers’ loans worth over Rs 61,00 crore was waived off by the Chhattisgarh government in one day, Dewangan said. CPCC Communication Department Chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that the Congress party condemns thrashing of journalist Suman Pandey by the BJP workers in their party office on Saturday while the reporter was recording the footage of the meeting of the BJP district unit.
