Thieves’ gang busted; TMT bars worth Rs 17 lakh seized

Khamtarai Police claimed to have cracked the two cases of thefts of trucks loaded with TMT bars with the arrest of 2 outsiders and 8 Chhattisgarh natives on Monday.
In a press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) City Prafulla Thakur gave the details of the case, saying two cases involving theft of two trucks loaded with tons of TMT iron bars were reported at Khamtarai area on January 7 and January 20.  The thieves carried out reconnaissance of the Urla, Sarora, Dharsiwa, Siltara, Tatibandh, Hirapur and Gondwara and wherever they found TMT bars loaded in a truck, they planned out the theft. The stolen TMT bars were sold in other districts and abandoned the trucks.


They were committing such thefts for past many years. Khamtarai Police personnel gave in a lot of efforts to arrest the accused men named Ganesh Sahu (21), resident of Rawabhata Khamtarai, Raunak Saluja (23), resident of Lormi district Mungeli, Sohanlal Sahu, native of Mahasamund, Vikas Singh (20), resident of Rawabhata Khamtarai, Gulabchand Sahu (36), resident of Mahasamund, Naeem Khan (35), resident of Rawabhata Khamtarai and native of Prayagraj Uttar Pradesh, Irfan Khan (22), native of Rewa Madhya Pradesh, and Niyaz Khan (35), resident of Rawabhata Khamtarai and confiscated two trucks with TMT bars.


The accused used Ritz car and motorcycles to mark the un-guarded trucks. These TMT Bars were disposed of in Komakhan, Mahasamund and Lormi while the trucks were left abandoned in Komakhan and Mungeli.
Estimated worth of the impounded TMT bars is about Rs 17 lakh. They have been booked under relevant sections of IPC.
