Rose demand multiplies as ‘Valentine Week’ begins

With the increase in usage of social media by youngsters, city is getting ready for the Valentine Day falling on February 14.
This time, the celebrations has commenced one week ahead which they have christened as ‘Valentine Week’ with Rose Day falling on February 7. This has generated renewed demand for roses in the market. Prior to February 7, there was rush in the flower wholesale market i. e Netaji Flower Market, Sitabuldi.

Vijay Wanjari, President of ‘Utpadak Thok Va Chillar Pushpa Vikreta Sangh operating in the Netaji Flower Market while talking to The Hitavada, the demand of Rose has multiplied. People are coming in the market and demanding roses of choice. The inflow of roses from the nurseries in the nearby places has increased. Netaji Market has 70 wholesalers who supply roses to over 3,000 retailers. Over 5,000 bundles of flowers each bundle has 30 or 100 flowers are arriving in vehicles. He added that demand for Red Rose is more than other varieties.

“Over, 3,000 bundles of Red roses were sold on February 6 and it would be difficult for us to meet the demand on February 7 i.e on Thursday. More than 60,000 Red roses will be sold on Rose Day. We will have to kep White Rose and Yellow Rose also. We have placed orders for Red Rose at places like Pune, Nashik, Banguluri and Nagpur,” Wanjari said.

Manish (Bhola) Datarkar of Om Sai Flowers said, Dutch Red Rose comes from Pune which is costly as compared to other varieties. “We have to keep all varieties for our customers. Dutch Red Rose bundle having 20 pieces on Wednesday was quoted between Rs 180 and Rs 230. Tora variety which was available in the bundle of 100 pieces at Rs 350 to Rs 400 per. Yellow and White Rose at Rs 220 to Rs 240 per 20 pieces. Rose prices at retailers will be quoted on higher side by Rs 20 to Rs 30 per piece depending upon the locality in the city.
