‘I-T rules applicable to charitable institutions’

Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce and CAIT Nagpur in association with Income Tax Department organised a workshop to spread awareness amongst charitable institutions about Income-Tax provisions. The workshop was organised at the meeting hall of NVCC.

Delivering his welcome speech, Arjundas Ahuja, Vice-President of NVCC thanked Income-Tax Department for coming to the door steps of the assessee for interaction and guidance. “This is a good positive change,” he said.Sardar Singh Meena, Commissioner of Income-Tax (Exemption), Pune acknowledging the importance and their contribution in nation building advised charitable institutions to take precautions in their day to day working and avoid certain mistakes. Narandra Kane, Additional Commissioner of Income-Tax (Exemption) Nagpur explained the provisions of registration, audit, return filing and TDS provisions applicable to charitable institutions.

He stressed on timely return filing in proper jurisdiction i.e. with exemption ward by charitable institutions because non-filing of returns or filing of return with wrong jurisdiction may attract withdrawal denial of exemptions.
At the outset, Sardar Singh Meena was welcomed by Arjundas Ahuja while Narendra Kane was welcomed by Rajubhai Makhija and Daisy Jose, S M V V Sarma. Suresh G. Ghungrud, D M Jaurkar, Anil Kumar Meena were welcomed by Swarnima Sinha and Virendra Chandak, Manoj Laturia and Rajesh Ohri.
B C Bhartia, Past President of NVCC and National President of CAIT in his introductory address said, charitable institutions are required to perform their activities keeping in mind the statutory provisions.

He said that the meeting may be a warning signal from the Department about the future strict action. He told trustees of charitable institution to take benefit of such programme so that they can avoid future action from the Department. Vote of thanks was proposed by Swapnil Ahirkar, Joint Secretary and workshop was conducted by Ramavtar Totla, Joint Secretary of NVCC. Present were Ashwin Mehadia, Vice President, Sachin Puniyani, Treasurer, Umesh Patel, Joint Secretary, Swapnil Ahirkar and others in large numbers.
