The Nagpur men's team achieved a remarkable feat by securing the bronze medal at the Yonex-Sunrise Maharashtra State Senior Inter-District Team Championship held in memory of Late Nandu Natekar at Goregaon Sports Club, Mumbai, recently.
In a hard-fought bronze medal match, Nagpur lost to Pune to settle for the bronze medal. Though the team narrowly missed a chance to reach the finals after a 3-1 loss to Pune in the semi-finals (in a best-of-five tie), their perseverance and teamwork earned them the third spot on the podium.
In men’s singles, Ojas Gedam beat Aryan Shetty 21-17, 21-14. In doubles Ajinkya Patkar and Nabeel Ahmed lost to Shetty and Yash Shah 17-21, 15-21, Rutva Sajwan lost to Rishabh Deshpande 8-21, 6-21, Gaurav Rege-HridayDeshmukh went down to Arya Thakore-Dhruv Thakore 9-21, 12-21.
Neha Gosavi was the manager of the team and Gaurav Narnavre was the coach.
Nagpur received the bronze medal by distinguished dignitaries from the Maharashtra Badminton Association, including General Secretary Shrikant Vad, Avinash Darmadhikari (President, BAMU), Leroy D’Sa (Former International player), and Chief Referee Uday Sane.
Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) President Kundatai Vijaykar, Senior Vice President Anand Sanchati, Vice Presidents Amit Bajaj and Shriram Purohit, Secretary Mangesh Kashikar, Joint Secretary Bhavana Agrey, Anant Apte Treasurer, NDBA and other NDBA executives congratulated the team.
