State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh, in presence of a number of senior party leaders, workers and citizens, inaugurated Katanga Flyover, a major development project for Jabalpur, on Saturday. He along with MP Ashish Dubey, Rajya Sabha Member Sumitra Valmiki, MLA Ashok Rohani, Dr. Abhilash Pandey, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh cut the ribbon to officially open the Rs 15.89 crores flyover at Gorakhpur-Katanga crossing, which connect Sadar to Gwarighat Road.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, PWD Minister Singh said development is a long journey that starts with determination and is achieved through continuous efforts. He apprised citizens on
Jabalpur’s development journey, mentioning efforts made to bring key projects to the city. The projects include the modernization of airport and railway station, IT park, state’s largest flyover, ring road and the new super-specialty hospital at Medical College. He also highlighted the Food Craft Institute at Dumna Road as an essential employment hub for youth and noted the influx of visitors drawn to the scenic view of Bargi Dam’s vast waters.
State Minister Singh also discussed the country’s second-longest ring road, a 118-kilometer stretch, which will host two logistics parks and an iconic bridge. He also informed future plans to connect Jabalpur to Amarkantak via a new National
Highway. Soon, a ropeway system connecting Sadar, Gorakhpur, Gwarighat, Civic Center, Baldeobagh and Damoh Naka will be part of the city’s transport network, similar to Varanasi’s setup. Singh said that Jabalpur’s development journey will continue to enhance transportation infrastructure with a series of flyovers. He also announced the coming bhoomipujan ceremonies for two new flyovers in the Cantt and Northern Assembly areas.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Ashish Dubey remarked on the historic significance of the Katanga Flyover’s inauguration, expressing that Jabalpur once awaiting development, is now witnessing a steady flow of progress. He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav’s focus on Jabalpur’s growth. Rajya Sabha Member Sumitra Valmiki, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh and MLA Ashok Rohani also addressed the programme. Those also present on the occasion were BJP City President Prabhat Sahu, Collector Deepak Saxena, SP Sampat Upadhyay and other officials.
