BHILAI, Amit Jose,

a notorious criminal and the prime suspect in the Globe Chowk shootout in Bhilai, was killed after an exchange of about 17 rounds of gunfire near Jayanti Stadium in Bhilai. The police followed all legal protocols and have begun a comprehensive investigation and evidence collection at the scene, according to Jitendra Shukla, Superintendent of Police, Durg, who briefed the media on Saturday. SP Shukla stated that Amit Jose had been involved in a string of violent crimes, including an attempted double murder following a minor altercation in Bhilai last June. Known for seeking to expand his influence through intimidation and openly challenging law enforcement, Jose’s status as a fugitive was a topic of discussion at a recent Chief Minister’s conference, prompting Durg Police to intensify efforts to apprehend him.

The Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) used active surveillance o track his movements, and based on intelligence about his presence near Jayanti Stadium, police set up roadblocks, urging him to surrender. Instead, Jose fired on the officers, sparking the gunfight. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Hemprakash Naik narrowly escaped injury in the exchange. SP Shukla further revealed that Jose had a criminal history and about 36 cases, including one murder, six attempted murders, and several armed robberies have been registered against him in different police stations in the district. A reward of Rs 40,000 was offered for his capture. Police are now thoroughly investigating his network to take action against those who may have supported or sheltered him. To ensure effective crime control, SP Shukla emphasized that all CSPs and SHOs have been instructed to regularly monitor known criminals. Monthly parades are to be conducted at police subdivisions and stations, with close oversight on the movements and financial sources of listed offenders.
