Trump, Putin speak over phone, discuss endingwar in Ukraine: Media report; Kremlin denies

WASHINGTON
US PRESIDENT-ELECT Donald
Trump spoke to Russian
President Vladimir Putin over
the phone and discussed ending the war in Ukraine amongst
many other important topics,
according to a media report.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied the
media report of the phone call
between Putin and Trump.
After winning the recent presidential elections, Trump has
spoken to over 70 world leaders. Prime Minister Narendra
Modi and Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu were
among the firsts.
“The two men discussed the
goal of peace on the European
continent and Trump expressed
an interest in follow-up conversations to discuss ‘the
resolution of Ukraine’s war
soon,” oneof thepeople said,”
The Washington Post said in
an exclusive report published
on Sunday.
One former US official who
was familiarwith thePutincall
said thatTrumplikelydoesnot
want toenterofficewitha fresh
crisis inUkraine prompted by
Russianescalation,“givinghim
the incentive to want to keep
the war from worsening,” the
daily said.Trumpis scheduled
to be sworn in as the 47th
President of the United States
on January 20, 2025. Ukraine
has been informed about the
Trump-Putin call.
“During the call, which
Trump took from his resort in
Florida,headvised theRussian
President not to escalate the
war in Ukraine and reminded
him of Washington’s sizable
military presence in Europe,
saida person familiarwith the
call, who, like others interviewed for this story, spoke on
the condition of anonymity to
discussasensitivematter,”The
Washington Post reported.
However, Kremlin
spokesmanPeskovinMoscow
said theWesternmediareports
of the phone call between
Putin andTrump are“untrue”,
‘TASS’ reported. “There was
noconversation...Thisiscompletely untrue; it’s pure fiction,”Peskovsaid.Meanwhile,
StevenCheung,Trump’scommunicationsdirector, toldPTI
hewouldnotcomment on the
private calls between
President-elect Trump and
other world leaders.
