Gold worth Rs 50 crore arrived in Nagpur by flight. Of this, gold worth Rs 35.5 crore has been distributed in Nagpur, and gold worth Rs 14.5 crore was being transported to Amravati for distribution on Saturday when the Flying Surveillance Team (FST) intercepted the vehicle and seized the gold. The material was confiscated and taken to the Ambazari Police Station for further action.
According to the Ambazari Police, Sequel Logistics, a Gujarat-based company has offices across the country, including one near Nikalas Mandir in Itwari. Gold worth Rs 50 crore, in the form of ornaments and biscuits, arrived in the city by a flight on Thursday. Later, it was distributed within the city, totaling Rs 35.5 crore, said police.
The gold locked in a security van was en route to Amravati on Saturday. The vehicle was heading towards Wadi from Ambazari Lake when the FST intercepted it.
During inspection, the FST members found large quantity of gold. They took the vehicle and the gold to the police station for further investigation.
A police official stated that under the Model Code of Conduct, gold worth over Rs 1 crore cannot be transported. If anyone wants to transport gold worth up to Rs 1 crore, he requires prior permission from the Election Commission of India. However, Sequel Logistics had not obtained such permission. The reason for secretly transporting the gold to Amravati is now under investigation by the FST officials.
