Two anti-socials have been booked for attempting to murder two on-duty policemen in the Tehsil Police Station area in the early hours of Sunday. The accused tried to run over the policemen with their car. The two officers were injured in the attack, officials said.
According to the police, Police Constable Aniruddha Sahastrabuddhe and two others were conducting a routine check on the road connecting Bhagwaghar Square and Mominpura Square at 1:30 am. A car approached from Mominpura area at high speed. The police signaled for the car to stop, but the driver attempted to flee the scene. Sahastrabuddhe and a beat marshal gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle. However, the driver reversed the car and attempted to run over the policemen. Sahastrabuddhe sustained injuries to his elbow, leg, and back during the incident.
The car later collided with a two-wheeler, struck a house railing, and fled the scene. Two pedestrians, Wahid Khan and Mohd Shahbaj, were injured in the accident.
The police later apprehended the car’s driver, identified as Sanket Dilip Kanhere (23), a resident of Ashtavinayak Apartment, Lumbini Nagar, Mankapur; and an occupant, Rahul Premlal Raut (32), a resident of Khaparkheda. One other individual, Sohail Khan (25), managed to escape from the vehicle. The injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital.
A case has been registered under Sections 109, 132, 324(4) of the IPC, read with Section 179 of the MVA.
