SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Modex unit, Steel Melting Shop-3, (SMS-3), achieved yet another milestone of cumulative production of 15 MT (Million Tonne) of
crude steel, on Saturday.
The journey of SMS-3 so far has been marked with remarkable improvement in the production rate, from 663 days for the first Million tonnes to 102 days that the shop took to complete the journey of production of Cast Steel from 14 to 15 million tonnes. This extraordinary feat becomes more significant, as during this period two converters (BOF-2 & 3) were under relining for nine and eight days, respectively.
Anirban Dasgupta Director I/c (SAIL-BSP), Anjani Kumar, ED I/c (Works), and Rakesh Kumar, ED (Operations) visited the Shop floor to congratulate and encourage the energetic and committed members of SMS-3 Collective, and associated departments.
Anirban Dasgupta Director I/c (SAIL-BSP), praised the team SMS-3 for their commitment and urged the shop collective to fulfil all future demands while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Anjani Kumar, ED I/c (Works) congratulated the team and urged them to complete the next Million tonnes of steel produced in 90 days.
Rakesh Kumar, ED (Operations) appreciated the efforts of team SMS-3 in achieving this feat and urged and expressed the desire to see more such feats in the near future.
Pramod Kumar, CGM (SMS-3) assured that the team SMS-3, along with all associated departments, is geared up to take up more challenges, achieve stiff targets & reach the next million tonne of steel in 90 days. He also assured that the future targets of increased demand for billets would be met by running the CV1 caster in billet section for 15 days in a month.
All dignitaries expressed their confidence in team SMS-3 and conveyed best wishes for future endeavours.
