CONSTITUTION Awareness Week was organised by the Law Department and National Service Scheme Unit of Rabindranath Tagore University (RNTU) to mark Constitution Day. It concluded with various competitions and national seminars. Senior educationist Prof Amitabh Saxena addressed the seminar on the topic ‘Philosophy of Indian holy book Gita and its reflection on the Indian Constitution’ as the keynote speaker and also answered questions of the audience. Saxena said, “Bhagavad Gita is the representative book of the holy scriptures of India which teaches us to live life in the right way. Gita tells that religion does not mean material practices of a particular sect, but religion means to keep on doing one’s duties selflessly. ‘Karma hi Pooja’ is also the essence of Gita”.

Similarly, the Indian Constitution also inspires us to discharge our duties. Our fundamental duties mentioned in the Constitution not only teach us to respect the country and the institutions established, but also teach us the feeling of co-existence towards the rivers, forests and wildlife of the country. “This is the essence of not only Gita, but also our Upanishads, whose reflection we see on the Constitution,” he said. Special guest, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Sangeeta Johri said that today’s young generation should study both Gita and Constitution. So that no one can mislead you. Dean of Law Department, Dr Nilesh Sharma also addressed on this occasion. Welcome speech was delivered by Programme Officer Gabbar Singh and a vote of thanks was proposed by Department Head Dr Naish Zameer. The programme was conducted by volunteer Vivek Bhaskar.
