On Friday, the city witnessed a protest by teachers who cleared the teacher eligibility test in 2023 but were not given appointment letters and were kept in the waiting category. They were also seen beating plates citing that it is a way to wake up the Government from sleep. They demanded increase in the posts of the teachers to 20,000 and filling the posts in class 1 and class 2 examination which was held in 2023. The teachers gathered near Rani Kamalapati Railway
Station in huge numbers and rallied to the office of the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). Barricading was done at the region along with the deployment of the police personnel who barred them to reach to their spot for protest. Reacting to that, they gathered at the road near the location and staged a demonstration. Posters and banners were raised high by them saying, “There were 17,000 posts in the single exam conducted in 2018 but in 2023 they were reduced to five thousand with two exams being held for the same.” Seeking anonymity, a teacher said that we have been pressing the Government from a long time, but the Government seems to be in a sleep and is not able to listen our complaints and is reluctant to act on the same. “The protest we are doing is a reminder to the Government to wake from the sleep of ignorance.” the protesting teacher said.
