TOP seed Heramba Pohane and fifth seed Shon Ugale started their campaign on a winning note on the opening day of the MSLTA-NDHTA All India Ranking CS7 Tennis Tournament which started on the clay surface of NDHTA courts in Ram Nagar, on Monday. The tournament is being organised by Nagpur District Hardcourt Tennis Association. Top seed Pohane survived a scare from Aarav Shah in a three-setter as he went on to win his match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. In another opening round battle, Ugale defeated city-mate Nihit Murarka 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-2 in three sets to move up in the competition.

 

The other seeded players easily advanced to the second round of the meet. In the girls section, Simoni Ganveer and Reet Agarwal fought hard but it was Simoni who had the last laugh. Doubles matches will start from Tuesday and the tournament will go on till Friday. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Nagpur District Hardcourt Tennis Association Secretary Dr Sudhir Bhiwapurkar, Vice-President Ashok Bhiwapurkar and Joint Secretary Vikram Naidu. Supervisor Vishal Landge conducted the matches.
