BHARTI Fulmali’s fine half century and Kanchan Nagwani’s six-wicket haul helped Vidarbha trounce Maharashtra by 39 runs in their Group D league match of the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy at the Air Force Complex ground, Palam II, New Delhi, on Thursday.
Vidarbha batters made merry after being asked to bat first. Openers Shivani Dharne and Latika Inamdar added 52 runs for the first wicket with the latter contributing 42 runs. Shivani (47) and captain Disha Kasat (44) then added 76 runs off 90 balls for the second wicket to put Vidarbha on a firm footing.
Bharti Fulmali, who top-scored with 64, added 71 runs with Sai Bhoyar (18 not out) for the fourth wicket to help Vidarbha to a healthy 236-5 in their 50 overs.
Maharashtra lost three early wickets before Tejaswini Batwal (29) and Anuja Patil stemmed the rot with a 60-run partnership.
Anuja, who top-scored with 84, kept Maharashtra in the game with a 66-run partnership with Shweta Mane (40). But once this partnership was broken by Kanchan Nagwani, the Maharashtra innings folded.
Kanchan, who finished with six wickets for 16 runs, was adjudged the Player of the Match. This was Vidarbha’s third victory in the tournament and they have 12 points from four matches.
