Making a scathing attack on the issue of door-to-door garbage collection by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), MLA Pravin Datke demanded that the contracts of two agencies — AG Enviro and BVG — be scrapped for their failure to meet the requirements. He raised the issue in the Assembly, on Wednesday, during point of propriety.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhary was informedabout the alleged mess by the agencies but he failed to take any action, he alleged.
“The responsibility has been entrusted upon these agencies to collect garbage and dump it at Bhandewadi. It has been noticed that the garbage collecting vehicles don’t reach homes regularly. Also, the garbage collected is not dumped at Bhandewadi. The garbage collection management has collapsed completely. This has brought down the ‘Swachha Survekshan’ ranking of NMC,” pointed out Datke.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have personally looked into it and attracted the attention of Dr Chaudhari but no step
was taken. This is very serious and can impact on people’s health. People are experiencing foul smell, noticed Datke. He asserted, “Considering the seriousness, both contracts should be scrapped. In Nagpur we have 10 zones so responsibility should be distributed among these many zones. This will surely improve the situation of garbage collection in Nagpur.
