It seems long wait of commuters for GG Flyover is going to end soon. As per the highly placed sources, the flyover is all set to be inaugurated soon. Departments is in talks with Chief Minister’s office to finalise date and availability of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav to dedicate the structure to public. It is expected next week, it may get formal inauguration tentatively on December 26.
Sources close to the development confirmed that the finishing touches on the flyover, including street light installation, are currently underway, and it is expected to be fully operational by the end of this month.
The last leg of work is going on with approximately 0.25% of work remaining on the stretch leading towards Hoshangabad Road (Gayatri Temple). Safety measures such as traffic signs and speed limits are being implemented to ensure smooth traffic flow once the flyover opens.
The GG Flyover, which spans from Ganesh Mandir to Gayatri Mandir, will significantly reduce travel time between Ganesh Mandir and Commercial MP Nagar. The new flyover is expected to cut travel time from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes during peak hours.
The project, initially launched in the year 2020, faced multiple hurdles, including delays caused by the metro project and the relocation of water supply lines by the BhopalMunicipal Corporation.
These issues led to a delay of about three years, with the project’s cost escalating from the initial estimate of Rs 140 crore to Rs 148 crore.
The flyover’s construction was also delayed due to the proximity of the metro line, which limited the movement of heavy machinery. Despite these challenges, the work has now gained momentum, and authorities are optimistic that the flyover will be ready for public use by December 26.
The flyover is expected to ease the daily commute for residents, particularly those travelling to the MP Nagar commercial hub. Once completed, the flyover will be able to handle up to 60% of the traffic in the area, improving traffic management and
providing much-needed relief to commuters. The GG Flyover project is considered crucial for the city, as it connects key areas such as Arera Colony, Shahpura, Narmadapuram, and Arera Hills, which houses around 90% of government offices. The project’s completion will drastically reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in one of the busiest parts of the city. Executive Engineer Javed Shakeel confirmed that while the flyover was originally designed with two segments, a third segment is now being added, which is expected to be completed shortly. PWD officials are hopeful that the flyover will be operational by the end of the month and will greatly alleviate the traffic woes of Bhopal residents.
