Hansobai, a 39-year old woman, passed away after she met with an accident, but her organs donated gave a new lease of life to two persons.
Hansobai Suresh Singh, a 39-year old woman, resident of Sonagaon, Wardha was a labourer. On December 17, while going to her village, she met with an accident. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. But her condition deteriorated and on December 19, she was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Here, she was treated for four days. During the treatment, she was found to be unresponsive to any treatment. After that, the doctors conducted all the tests and tried all treatment. She was diagnosed with a severe brain haemorrhage.
Her condition deteriorated neurologically and the team of doctors, including the team of doctors Dr Avinash Gawande, Dr Soma Cham, Dr Dipali Vidole, Dr Medha Badwaik and Dr Sneha Pawaskar declared her brain dead.
The coordinators at GMCH Dr Sumit Chahakar, Coordinator at Government Medical College (Trauma Care Centre), Shyam Panjala and Bhagyashree Nigot family members did not give her any information and advised her to donate her organs. Her husband Suresh and brother Makhan Singh along with the entire family took a decision and gave their consent for organ donation. The family gave their consent to donate both her kidneys and liver.
After the consent, Dr Sanjay Kolte-led Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre with Dr Rahul Saxena as its Secretary and Dinesh Mandpe, Transplant Coordinator swung into action. ZTCC-Nagpur Committee allocated organs.
Liver was given to a 53-year old man at Mascara Hospital and kidney 1 was given to a 38-year old man at GMCH. Kidney-2 could not be retrieved due to medical reasons.
GMCH Trauma Care Centre staff created the honour corridor and paid tributes to the donor and ZTCC Nagpur provided free ambulance service up to the native place of deceased at Nayapura, district Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.
