Nagpur city, on Friday evening, received light to moderate rainfall as predicted
by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, many were caught unawares.
As per the IMD, the rainfall distribution was isolated across Vidarbha region with very light intensity. There was no major change in maximum temperature over Vidarbha, and it remained ‘normal’. Though there was no large change in minimum temperature over the region, it was ‘markedly above normal’.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Brahmapuri (33 degrees Celsius) and the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Bhandara (16.8 degrees Celsius) stations in the region.
The showers in Nagpur on Friday evening caught many unawares. As a result, many got stuck since they were not carrying raincoats. The rains left a trail as
the reflections of street-lights formed the illusive but colourful
carpets on the roads. Tea-stalls
and coffee shops did brisk
business. Nagpurians expected the minimum temperature to drop by a few degrees.
As far as Nagpur is concerned, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, has predicted ‘generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers’ on
Saturday.
On Sunday, it has predicted ‘generally cloudy sky with light rain’. On Saturday and Sunday, the maximum temperature in Nagpur is expected to be 29 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, is expected to be 19 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 16 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Barring Akola, where maximum temperature was 3.3 degrees Celsius below normal, the maximum temperature was above normal in the range of 0.6 degrees (Chandrapur) to 2.5 degrees Celsius (Yavatmal) in Vidarbha.
