The plan of development of airport at Gadchiroli is gaining momentum. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has
been calling Gadchiroli as the future
Steel City of India. An airport there is
its major need. Now, the Divisional Commissionerate has taken the task of land acquisition on war-footing, which is likely to begin in the first or second week of January 2025.
Divisional
Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari is taking steps regarding land acquisition process. Land in Murkhala, Pulkhal, Kaneri, Mudja villages has been proposed for the proposed airport in Gadchiroli. The District Collector of Gadchiroli has been appointed as
the authorised officer for the land
acquisition.
According to Bidari, the land acquisition proposal is likely to be received from the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) in a week or so. Approximately 229.43 hectares land in Murkhala, Pulkhal and Kaneri villages is to be acquired.
Devendra Fadnavis, during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister, had visited Gadchiroli and vowed to make the district economically prosperous and self-reliant. He had asked the officials to
revive the old plan of Gadchiroli airport.
In fact, Fadnavis had directed the MADC to expedite the development work of the 32 existing and proposed airports in the State and complete them on time, in a meeting.
Land acquisition is the major issue in developing airport. In Gadchiroli, now everything is clear. Once MADC gives green signal, the Gadchiroli Collector will start the process of acquisition.
