Under the direction of Superintendent of Police, Sampat Upadhyay (IPS), a meeting of drivers of e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaws was organised at Police Control Room. Auto-rickshaw drivers were given necessary directions for fluent traffic operation and safety of passengers. It was informed that the three zones will be made for operation of e-rickshaws and its owners will have to register their vehicles at traffic police stations.
Additional SP (Traffic), Pradeep Kumar Shende chaired the meeting while Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Jitendra Raghuvanshi, DSP (Traffic), Malviya Chowk, Santosh Kumar Shukla, DSP (Traffic), Garha, Baijnath Prajapati, SHO, Traffic Police Station, Malviya Chowk, Shivdayal Sanodia and Subedar Rahul Singh were present.
The meeting was attended by members of the
Auto Driver Union, including President Lalu Somyani, Vice-President Sunil Sheetpal, Secretary Arvind Sindhiya, Joint Secretary Bharat Satpal, Treasurer Raju Razzak Khan and approximately 100 auto owners and drivers.
The meeting focused on reducing road accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the city, as well as on proper management of auto, APE, and e-rickshaw operations. The drivers were provided with detailed instructions on traffic regulations, including do not drive under the influence of alcohol, wear uniforms as per traffic norms, treat passengers respectfully, especially those from outside the city and charge the prescribed fare, park vehicles only in designated parking areas, do not park autos or e-rickshaws at intersections or
T-junctions, avoid stopping vehicles anywhere to pick up passengers and e-rickshaws must have rods installed on the right side for safety.
In the meeting, it was agreed upon by the Auto/APE Union’s leaders and drivers to establish three zones for e-rickshaw operations, each under the jurisdiction of the respective traffic police stations.
E-rickshaw owners and drivers can now register their vehicles for operation in the desired traffic zone between 28th December 2024 and 15th January 2025. The registration
process will take place at the respective traffic police stations (Malviya Chowk, Ghamapur or Garha).
During registration, vehicle owners/drivers must bring all relevant documents, including registration card, driving License, aadhar card and two passport-sized photographs. Besides this, in addition, the e-rickshaw must have a color code and registration number displayed prominently on the front and rear of the vehicle.
This initiative aims to streamline the operation of e-rickshaws and autos, ensuring a safer and more organized traffic system in Jabalpur.
