Three bike-borne men armed with sharp weapons attacked two persons near the bustling Gandhibagh garden late Sunday night. The brutal assault left one dead at the spot and another critically injured. The police are suspecting family dispute as the reason behind the murder.
The Tehsil Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers -- Abhishek Rathod and Sonu Rathod, but as of now, their identities remain unknown. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Ravi Rathod (35), a resident of Pardi area. Ravi was an auto-rickshaw driver.
A quarrel ensued between two families last week and Ravi had intervened into the matter. Since then, the accused were angry with Ravi. The incident occurred around 10.55 pm when the three assailants, all armed with sharp-edged weapons, arrived at the scene on separate motorcycles.
The Rathod brothers, who were near the Gandhibagh garden, were caught off guard by the sudden onslaught. Before they could react, the attackers surrounded them and began assaulting them with knives or similar sharp instruments.
Eyewitnesses, who were nearby, noticed the assault and immediately alerted the Tehsil Police Station, which is located just 100 meters from the crime scene. The police arrived at the location within minutes. The victims were rushed to the Mayo Hospital in a desperate attempt to save their lives. While Ravi was declared dead on arrival, his brother is being treated at the hospital. Tehsil Police have begun an extensive investigation into the incident, though as of yet, no arrests have been made. Police sources have stated that they are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas for investigation.
