Bhilai Nagar MLA Devendra Yadav has moved High Court (HC) against the notice served to him by the police for questioning in the Balodabazar violence case. It was believed that Yadav will be going to Balodabazar on Thursday due to which large number of police personnel was also deployed in the Balodabazar Kotwali Police Station but MLA Yadav skipped the same and instead filed a petition in the court. In his submissions made before the High Court, MLA Yadav said that no reason was mentioned in the notice for questioning given to him by the police while also claiming that people are being threatened to say his name in the Balodabazar violence case.

On June 10, violence had erupted at Balodabazar in the backdrop of the May 15 incident when unidentified persons had vandalised the ‘Jaitkham’, a revered and holy site for Satnami Community. Several persons including the office bearers of National Students Union of India have been arrested by the police in connection with the violent incident. Notably, on June 10, Devendra had reportedly attended the protest launched by the Satnami Community against damage to Jaitkham. During the course of investigations, the Balodabazar Police had recently served a notice to MLA Yadav for questioning on July 9 and it was expected that MLA Yadav will be reaching Balodabazar Kotwali on Thursday due to which heavy police force was deployed there while barricading was also done to deal with any untoward situation. MLA Yadav skipped going to the police station and instead filed a petition through his lawyer in the High Court. MLA Yadav claimed before the court that people are being forced to take his name. Along with other detailed submissions, he told the court that he will be duly following the court’s order which will be issued in this regard.
