‘The Hitavada-City Line’ has been carrying a series ‘Red-flagging Traffic Jams’ on the current situation of city streets to highlight certain callous and aimless approach, thereby underscoring the emergent needs to ensure strict disciplines and punctuality by all concerned, which is appreciable. It is observed in recent times that there has been a spurt in traffic movement across the city.

Chaos, confusions, and traffic jams are now becoming a common occurrence on city roads and a question that comes to our mind is whether the situation is really out of control. While there is a general tendency to blame the traffic authorities, the citizens are also to an extent responsible for blatantly violating the norms. Sounding horns needlessly even when the traffic is moving, instances of over speeding/rash driving more so during the non peak hours with total disregard to laid down rules, thereby also putting others into peril and not carrying out the due emission check at periodical intervals that can cause a serious health hazard must also be looked into. Switching off the vehicle’s engine at signals that requires waiting for a bit more duration because of heavy traffic, to reduce emissions can also be considered.

Stray cattle right in the middle of the road obstructing the traffic path is also noticed on a few occasions at certain locations. Some bad patches and potholes on the road cannot be ignored. Towards also ensuring fuel conservation and improving fuel efficiency particularly while riding on highways; it is also necessary to maintain a steady speed, which can help to reduce unnecessary acceleration and braking. While authorities concerned must intensify their actions by working in tandem with each other to ensure proper upkeep of infrastructure, initiate appropriate rectifications wherever necessary, and manage the traffic affairs in an orderly manner; the citizens cannot escape their share of the blame and hence must exhibit complete civic sense, ensure traffic discipline that can help in avoiding fatalities. It is essentially a collective task and hence, self-imposed discipline is the need of the hour.
