Nagpur received the first widespread monsoon rain of the season on Wednesday. Most parts of the city witnessed moderate rains with thunderstorm and lightning. Experiencing high humidity, Nagpurians were eagerly waiting for good rains for last couple of days. Low pressure area over south Odisha and neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height, has moved over south Chhattisgarh adjoining Vidarbha. Similarly, monsoon trough mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Raisen, centre of low pressure over south Chhattisgarh adjoining Vidarbha, Gopalpur and southeastwards to the central Bay of Bengal extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level.
 
Due to these weather developments, monsoon rains are active across Vidarbha. Similar weather condition will prevail in the region till July 19, stated a press release issued India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday. In last 36 hours, Nagpur district received 58.8 mm rainfall followed by Bhandara (59 mm). On Wednesday, Nagpur received 19 mm rainfall while Bhandara received 56 mm rains. Despite good rainfall in last 36 hours, Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts are still having rainfall deficit. Since start of monsoon in June 1, Nagpur received 277.1 mm rains, so far, against 345.3 mm of normal with 20% of deficit. In Vidarbha, Bhandara district still has highest 37% rainfall deficit. Bhandara received 241.1 mm rains against 381.4 mm normal rainfall.
 
Similarly, rainfall deficit of Gondia district is 32%. The district received 287.3 mm rains, so far, whereas the normal rainfall is 421.3 mm. In last 36 hours, with 117 mm rains, Brahmapuri received highest rainfall in Vidarbha followed by Akola (49.9 mm), Amravati (11 mm), Chandrapur (17.8 mm), Gadchiroli (27.6 mm), Gondia (8.2 mm), Wardha (66.8 mm), Yavatmal (6.4 mm), and Buldhana (3 mm). Akola, Buldhana, Washim and Yavatmal received excess rainfall till date whereas other places have received normal rains.
