CITY’S Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nanware has made Maharashtra Police Department as well as the country proud by climbing the ‘Makalu Peak’. API Nanware, who is posted at Nagpur’s Crime Branch, became the first officer from Maharashtra Police Department to climb this peak. A resident of Solapur, Nanware conquered Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain on Earth on May 30 and hoisted the Indian tri-colour and flag of Maharashtra State Police Force as a mark of achievement. Nanware took 55 days to go atop the peak due to constant changing weather to accomplish this feat. Makalu has an elevation of 8,485 metres above mean sea level (AMSL).

It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km south-east of Mount Everest, on the China–Nepal border. Nanware is the fourth Everest hero of Maharashtra Police and first from Nagpur Police Department. Makalu Peak is also considered as one of the toughest peaks to climb with various hurdles in between. This year 36 climbers were given permission to climb the peak but only nine of them could reach the summit. It was a proud moment that API Nanware was among those nine climbers who completed the task. This for the first time that a policeman from Maharashtra has climbed ‘Makalu Peak’ in his first attempt. Nanware has been honoured with Director General of Police Medal in 2018, Central Government Internal Security Medal in 2019 and Khatar Seva Medal. Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Aswathi Dorje, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Nimit Goyal congratulated Everester Nanware for his achievement.
