INTENSE Monsoon rains have drenched the entire State with rivers in Dantewada, Bijapur and Kondagaon districts breaching the banks and submerging several surrounding villages blocking major thoroughfares. The daylong showers, the first in ongoing rainy season brought smiles while the repeated drenching slowed down the hectic traffic and public movement across the Raipur city. With 100 per cent overcast condition, the capital city recorded around 23 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours. However, Bhairamgarh in Bijapur district received highest rainfall of 140mm in the State.
 
According to the MeT Centre, monsoon was active with maximum places recording light to medium rainfall across the State. High intensity rainfall activities covered 18 places while heavy to very heavy rains was received at two places. Apart from Bhairamgarh, Charama, Bhanupratappur, Katru and Lavan recorded 100mm rainfall followed by Bijapur, Arjnda, Bade Bacheli and Dornapal – 90mm, Belargaon, Sukma, Gangalur, gariaband and Durg – 80mm, Orcha, Kanker, Kashdol, Jagargunda and kawardha – 70mm, Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon, Duldula, Sarona, Gurur – 60mm while below 60mm rainfall was recorded at several places across the State. Meanwhile, MeT Centre has warned of possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in Surguja, Jashpur, Bilaspur, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Raigarh, Korba and Durg districts on July 23. The general forecast stated of moderate to medium rainfall with heavy rainfall at one or two places in the State on July 23. The sky will be normally cloudy with chances of thundershowers or rains in Raipur on Tuesday.
