ABIR Arindham Bhattacharya, a student of Narayana Vidyalayam, Koradi, finished second best in the boys Under-9 age category in the recently concluded Yonex Sunrise Bhagini Mandal Nagpur District Badminton Tournament at Subhedar Hall, Ravi Nagar. In the final, Abir went down to top seed Pradyumna Meshram 21-7, 21-3. In the semi-finals, eight-year-old Abir defeated Rishi Singh in a closely-fought battle. Abir took the first game 21-13 but narrowly missed the second losing it 19-21. But in the decider he gathered his composure and took it 21-12 to make it to the final. Earlier, In the round of 16 match, Abir ousted Ansh Mohta 15-7, 15-5. Abir trains at Divisional Sports Complex’s Indoor Hall at Mankapur under the able guidance of Jayendra Dhole and Santosh Bokey.
