Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport may join the club of airports having an annual passengers handling capacity of 15 lakh with its expanding services and maintenance. Since December 2023, the airport is included in 1.25 lakh monthly passengers club. In past six months, around 7.90 lakh passengers have travelled from Bhopal airport. With this record, expectation is being made that this year Raja Bhoj Airport may be joining the annual 15 lakh passenger’s club. However, in last week of June, entry of monsoon and ending holiday has affected the passengers count.

Officials said that in comparison to previous months, from June end passenger’s count has been declined for two main reasons including entry of monsoon and ending summer vacations. While in the month of May, 1,42,878 flyers were registered at the airport, month of June recorded 1,34,166 flyers. Rounds of flight have also been declined in June as there were many flights cancelled during intense summer heat. Experts said that number of flyers increased from the airport and this has happened because of the Passenger Growth Plan of Airport Authority.

If Raja Bhoj Airport joins the club of annual 15 lakh flyers, expectation to start new flights for many cities will be raised. Experts said that if direct flight for Goa and Pune like cities begin from Bhopal, passengers count will be increasing. Ramji Awasthi, Director of Bhopal Airport, said, “There is planning to start flights on new routes and this will be adding number of flyers from Bhopal. We aims to provide best facilities to the maximum people. For past few months, flyers count has increased from Bhopal.”
