Arise, awake, and stop not until
the goal is reached

n the recently concluded
Olympic Games, Manu Bhakar,
Vinesh Phogat and other female
sporstwomen from the country
brought pride to India with their spirited performance. But just weeks
after celebrating the success of these
glorious daughters of India, we had
to endure the details of a horrific
crime at R G Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
Of how brutally a young woman was
raped and then murdered, very
much at her workplace.
Hence the question. What
progress has India really made?
One came across many reels on
social media wherein people are
demanding justice for the victim
and harshest punishment for the
guilty. But what about immediate
action to secure oneself and those
near us. As medical students, me and
my friends would also work as
interns and residents.
I have promised myself to always
look out for my colleagues, wherever I may be posted. I feel committed to making my peers uncomfortable in any situation, whether
dealing with patients or working
with seniors. The onus is also on
male colleagues now to make their
female peers feel safe and secure.
Social media campaigns may not
help as much but our own actions
would. We can take responsibility
and making our working environments better.
