Women wing of MPCC stages protest, submits memorandum to Governor
WOMEN wing of the Madhya
Pradesh Congress Committee
(MPCC) on Wednesday staged
a protest at Raushanpura
intersection in the city under
the banner of Nari Nyaya
Andolan. Demonstrating
under the leadership of their
state president Vibha Patel,
the women wing demanded
respite from the economic,
social problems in the state.
They also took the government on crosshairs on the
issue of caste census, inflation
and faltering medical administration in the state. They also
submitted a memorandum to
the governor of the state.
Heavy police force was
deployed on the moment barring the workers from reaching the Rajbhawan.
State Unit Media Cell chief
said that women’s reservation
is crucial for protecting the
rights of the females in the
State and country and hence
should be implemented with
no delays.
Whereas former
Minister Sajjan Singh Verma
lashed out at the Government
statting that there is a sense
of fear and insecurity among
the females of MP. Crime
against women is grabbing
headlines in the State and the
silence of Chief Minister Dr.
Mohan Yadav and other members of the council of ministers is raising serious questions
on the same.
Praising the movement by
the party, former minister P C
Sharma said that this movement is being run by the State
throughout State to protect the
rights of women. “This will wake
the Government from the long
sleep of negligence,” he said.
Addressing the gathering,
Vibha Patel demanded a
strong law for women’s safety.
“The graph of incidents of
atrocities, incest and rape on
women is increasing day by
day in State. Women’s
Reservation Act should be
implemented immediately
and 33% reservation should
be given only to women of
backward classes. Caste census should be done soon for
social equality and social justice. Economic empowerment
should be done for the livelihood of women,” she said.
She also emphasised that to
empower women and ‘Ladli
behnas’ who are economically
weak, financial assistance of
Rs one lakh annually or Rs
8,500 every month should be
started soon under Nari Nyay
to one woman of every poor
family. Discrimination against
women should be ended and
the principle of ‘equal workequal pay’ should be implemented. Strict laws should be
made to stop incidents of
atrocities, misconduct, rape
and to create an atmosphere
of fear among criminals.
Several leaders and office
bearers of the party were also
present during the same.
