AFTER swine flu, dengue and malaria, outbreak of diarrhoea has started in the district. 30 villagers of Daurikalari, Gram Panchayat Khairaduban under Pali block
have been affected
by diarrhoea.
Of these, 26 have been admitted to the Community Health Centre, Pali. The condition of five of them is reported to be serious. The remaining four villagers are being treated in the village itself. Diarrhoea outbreak is being attributed to drinking contaminated water. Amidst the continuous rains, the effect of seasonal change was visible on people’s health.
The District Health Department was continuously claiming that complete preparations have been made to control water-borne diseases occurring during the rainy season, but
the incident in Daurikalari has exposed the department’s claims.
Villagers said that people started complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea three days ago. Even after reporting to the health department, camp was not organised at the scheduled time. A camp was set up on Thursday morning after 26 people from the village reached the hospital.
However, the situation remains serious. The victims include seven people from the same family. Seeing the deteriorating condition of 46 year old Neelam Maravi, she has been referred to a
private hospital.
Most of the victims include women and children. Relatives say that people are not getting adequate treatment in the Community Health Center, Pali. They have to wander for treatment, and owing to their condition growing worse, health workers are referring them. Relatives are
worried about the problem because they do not
have money for treatment in a private hospital.
Villagers said that there is no adequate drinking water system in the village. Door-to-door water supply under Jal Jeevan Mission is yet to reach completion. People have to drink water from open sources. In view of the diarrhea situation, the health department has closed the public well of the village.
The water has been sent to the PHE department's lab for testing. Lack of cleanliness is also seen in the village.
Block medical officer Pali Anil Sharaf said that a school camp has been organized by the Health Department in Chaitma and Bharwamuda yesterday. Also, a camp has
been organized by the Health Department in the school of Daurikhalari in which the nearby villagers are being checked. Recently, 20 people have been organized in the Community Health Center, Pali. People suffering from diarrhea are also being treated by organizing camps in the village. CMHO Dr S N Kesari said that a camp has been organized in village Daurakalari for the treatment of diarrhea patients. The victims include seven people from the same family. it is suspected that they fell ill after eating Kareel. Apart from this, the water of the public well of the village is also being tested. Adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of patients. Presently, the situation is under control.
